Every Little Hurricane

Recently I have had someone close to me pass away. Its happened before but this time It brought around a hurricane in my life. Just like in the short story one thing led to another. Soon enough a hurricane arose and all of these others. This relates to all of us because when a hurricane arises we feel almost the same as the first hurricane.

  1. I'm really sorrry to hear about your lose. I totally understand where your coming from because I've had to endure my far share of deaths. It may be hard at the time, but it's important to remember that things will get better. They always do.

  2. I may not have lost someone, but a few months ago...it may have just been easier that he would have died. My brother got into a tragic car accident leaving him in the Trauma Unit and leaving the other person dead. Alcohol caused this and left him stubborn and in jail. It has been a tough "hurricane" for me to get through, but i promise things will get better. It just takes time.

  3. As a teacher, it's easy to forget that y'all have these lives-- complicated, messy, triumphant, tragic-- outside of the 90 minutes a day I see you. Everyone has these hurricanes (I think that's why we can relate to the story even though none of us, as far as I know, have grown up on a reservation). One of the most important functions of literature is to foster a sense of connection and understanding with the author and/or the text. I'm sorry for what you guys have been going through, but Victor survives these hurricanes (check out his name—it even speaks of triumph), and so will you.
